Going to the gym is one of my favorite things to do. It fires me up, and it’s also a great escape. I plan my entire day around what time I’m going to get my workout in and what foods/meals I’ll need to eat to obtain my goals. As soon as I walk into the gym, it’s all business. It’s my time to get away from all the craziness in life; I put my phone on airplane mode, throw my headphones on, turn the volume all the way up, and get after it.
I work out 5-6 days per week. Each day I target a different muscle group (i.e. shoulders on Monday, back on Tuesday, abs on Wednesday, chest on Thursday, biceps & triceps on Friday and legs on Saturday). I only target one muscle group once a week (except abdominals) to give that body part time to rest and heal in order for it to grow (when I’m looking to build muscle).
Each day I will do at least 4 different exercises on the muscle I’m working out. These exercises change constantly. It’s very important to switch up the routine because you want to keep the muscle guessing. Someone who continually does the same workouts/exercises is likely to hit a plateau much sooner than someone who varies their workouts. I like to get 10 mins of cardio in before I do anything. Whether it’s the stair climber, stationary bike, or just going for a quick run, I like to get the blood pumping and get a nice little sweat to start the workout. Right after the warm-up, it’s always crucial to stretch the body to avoid any injury while lifting. Depending on what I want to achieve, the amount of sets and reps completely vary. I’m always setting goals for myself which gives me the motivation to continue grinding away. Working out should be fun and exciting– it’s a passion of mine and I hope it never becomes a chore. When I reach my health and fitness goals, it makes me feel so much better about everything else in life.
